Starting September 5th, New
Horizons of Michigan will host the Microsoft SharePoint User
Group's bi-monthly meetings.
The SharePoint User Group will meet on the first Wednesday of
every other month. Attendance is free and meetings are

Starting with the 2007
Microsoft Office System, Microsoft has released a new series of
credentials to validate knowledge and skills related to Microsoft Office
products. With the new Microsoft Business Certification series,
you can now demonstrate your proficiency with a particular Microsoft
technology as well as your expertise in applying that technology to
specific tasks in a business environment.
Microsoft Certified
Application Specialist
 Resembles
the Microsoft Office Specialist certification but covers Word 2007,
Excel 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Outlook 2007 and Access 2007.
Microsoft
Certified Application Professional
 Demonstrates
advanced, cross-industry skills and collaboration capabilities and
focuses on areas such as managing budgets, managing presentations, and
managing team collaboration.

Launches Mentored Learning!
|
 Mentored
Learning is now available at New Horizons locations in Chicago &
Cleveland and will be available October 1, 2007 in Michigan!
New Horizons of Michigan is excited to introduce our clients to
Mentored Learning, a new learning method that combines recorded audio and video lecture, simulation and live lab exercises, and online tutorials with the expertise of New Horizons Mentors. Through a comprehensive approach that includes an assessment of the student's skill gaps, a prescriptive learning plan, one-on-one mentoring and flexible scheduling,
Mentored Learning allows you to learn the skills you need at a pace that's right for you and offers you the additional assistance of a New Horizons Mentor when you need it.
Students can attend sessions at New Horizons in the morning,
afternoon or evening. Each student will receive the
relevant class materials for the course and will have a learning
area that includes two monitors (one to view video lecture and
one to perform exercises or labs) and an audio headset.

will include the Microsoft Across America truck --
featuring Microsoft SharePoint technology -- and sessions
on topics such as software licensing and benefits and Microsoft
SharePoint and .NET implementation. New Horizons will also host demo
sessions where attendees can experience Mentored Learning
firsthand and learn more about how it can meet your training
needs.
For individuals who are interested in our Continuing
Education Programs, we will have sessions hosted by our
Directors of Admissions. During these sessions, the
Directors will discuss our programs, certification, and job
placement assistance.

Microsoft & Cisco Certification Exam Changes
|
Microsoft and Prometric have announced that as of
September 1, 2007, Prometric
will be the designated provider for all
Microsoft Certification Program Examinations.
Due to this new agreement, Pearson VUE will discontinue selling
Microsoft professional exams after 8/31/07, but may continue to
deliver Microsoft professional certification exams through
12/31/07 with vouchers purchased by 8/31/07.
Note: Microsoft Office Specialist, Microsoft
Application Specialist and Microsoft Application Professional
exams will continued to be offered through Certiport.
Also, as of August 1, 2007,
Pearson VUE is the primary test vendor for
Cisco certification exams
worldwide. Pearson VUE has been delivering Cisco
exams since 2000, but shifting to a primary vendor strategy
worldwide will enable Cisco to advance test security through the
deployment of advanced biometric technologies, facilitate the
rapid localization of exams around the world, and allow for
increased certification scalability and coverage.

Cisco recently announced
changes to their Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
certification program. As of 8/15/07, Cisco
offers the following CCNA exams:

Networking Technician (CCENT). Candidates can achieve

New Horizons will start offering
the new CCNA courses in November. These courses will
be ICND1 and ICND2 and will correspond to the exam parts listed
above.
